Kinja'd!!!

Driving to Winnipeg Beach tomorrow for the weekend, and I’m trying to think whether it’s better to take my car or my girlfriend’s.

Elantra GT Pros

Better fuel economy and it takes regular gas

A bit more room

Comfortable and proven as we’ve done the drive in it before

Not a cop magnet

Fiesta ST Pros

It’s mine, not my girlfriend’s, so I don’t care about putting mileage on it

Wouldn’t have to leave it parked at her place

Pops and burbles when downshifting

Bangin’ sound system

My partner’s stance is “whatever”, but I’m still hemming and hawing. What say you?

I’m always more comfortable driving my own.

Clearly you’ve never heard the sound system in a base model Elantra GT!

Whatever is more comfortable. I am guessing the Fiesta has better seats.

Recaros which have been fine on 3 hour drives. The Elantra’s seats are also comfortable, though.

The Elantra GT is available with an awesome panoramic sunroof :o)

I kno w it’s against your principle, but you CAN put regular in the FieSTa (unless you have a tune, do you have a tune?)... And I always thought it was a great road-trip car. Fast and reasonably quiet/comfortable for long haul highway blasting.

Does the girlfriend know how to drive manual? I find that it is always a good idea to bring a car you both can drive if needed.

If you’re driving, take your car.  If she’s driving, then take her car.

What if we split driving?

Granted, she’s probably going to be dead tired tomorrow since she got two or three hours of sleep last night/this morning, so I’ll be doing most of the driving.

Hah, principle. I have no issues running regular in the FiST, so maybe I’ll do that for a tank or two.

Yeah but you could say its keeping the mileage off your cars to ms   CB. Then just go thrashing around the streets of Winnipeg.

Also have no clue how long this trip is but either way worth it

Nah, I don’t mind. I usually do 500 kilometres a week in the car, so this won’t be anything new. Besides, I went into this expecting my car to be worth $0 when I finish with it, and I love driving it, so it’ll be fine.

It’ll be about 1600 kilometres there and back. Plus, hopefully no driving in Winnipeg! Winnipeg Beach is about an hour and a half north.

Then take the Fiesta.

The only answer is ST, you still get more than 20mpg so its fine on gas. Its worth it in smiles per gallon at that point. I say this every time about the STi on trips where I get maybe 23mpg if I keep it below 80. Just the having to leave the car away from home would be enough to convince me anyways, even if it wasnt the more fun car. Overall, having a fun car on a road trip always makes the trip 1000x more special. And if you are the one doing all of the driving, then its not even really a debate.
